MS Dhoni apologized straightaway, says Kiwi All-Rounder Santner

Mitchell Santner is an New Zealand International Cricketer & also plays for the franchise team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL. He is an All-Rounder who bats left-handed and bowls slow left-arm orthodox spin.

Speaking in an Instagram live with the franchise team CSK, he shared about the incident which happened in 2019 IPL match against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Santner said he was surprised as everyone  when Dhoni walking out to the field to have argument with the umpires for the no-ball call during the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2019. When needed 8 runs off 3 balls, Ben Strokes bowled a full toss ball after which the on-field umpire appeared to raise his hand to signal a no-ball but did not call it in the end. So Dhoni came into the field and had an argument with the umpires for the no-ball call. But however, CSK won that thrilling match by Santner hitting six at the last ball.

Santner said that,"I was probably as surprised as everyone. He (Dhoni) is so calm. But I think that shows you how committed he is to the team and how much of a family it is to him and how much it means to him to do something like that. It wasn't anger, it was just one of the umpires just stuck his hand out and you can't be going back,"

He continued that,"I guess, to end up winning it was a good thing. If we had lost it, there would have been more anger flowing around.
"It kind of shows you how it brought everyone together. We went on to win a few after that. Those kinds of games, if you get on the right side of the result it can help you gain momentum moving forward. It wasn't a perfect game but different people stepped up at different times."
"A little bit (talk after the game). I was out there. I obviously saw him out there. He was right next to the umpire. Obviously he knew he was not allowed to do that. He apologized straightaway. It might have flustered Stokes and gave me a good ball to hit. I am happy" he added.
After winning the title on their comeback in 2018, Chennai Super Kings once again reached the final last season but failed to clinch their fourth title after losing it by just 1 run against their rivals Mumbai Indians.
