World Cup 2011 Final was fixed, says former Sri Lanka Minister

Sri Lanka's former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has claimed that 2011 World Cup Final between India and Sri Lanka was fixed.

India won the 2011 World Cup finals against Sri Lanka by six wickets. Sri Lanka scored a total of 274 runs in 50 overs. India Successfully chased the total with the brilliance of the former Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (91)*& Gautam Gambhir (97). Though India were at the stage of 31/3, Gautam Gambhir & Virat Kohli lifted the Indian team to chase back. After the wicket of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni got to the track and scored 109 partnership runs with Gautam Gambhir. After Gautam Gambhir lost his wicket on 97 runs, MS Dhoni successfully chased the total and led the team to win the World Cup after 28 years.

Mahindananda Aluthgmage, who was the Sports Minister of Sri Lanka during the World Cup 2011 said that,"Today I am telling you that we sold the 2011 World Cup final. It took place when I was the sports minister of Sri Lanka. However, I do not want to announce this for the sake of the country. I can't exactly remember if it was 2011 or 2012. But we were to win that game."

"I am telling you with responsibility I felt that the match was fixed. I can debate this, I know people were concerned about this. I would not involve cricketers in this."

Kumar Sangakkara, who was the captain of Sri Lanka Cricket team during the 2011 World Cup, asked him to produce evidence.

Sangakkara told that,"It's a very serious allegation. Since he has evidence and proof, the prudent thing to do is to go to the Anti-Corruption Unit of the ICC and put forth his claims so they can investigate them thoroughly and come to a conclusion whether what the former minister says is true or not."

Even the former vice-captain of Sri Lanka Cricket team during 2011 World Cup, Mahela Jayawardane also responded to the words of former minister. Jayawardane tweeted that,"Is this elections around the corner..like the circus has started..names and evidence?"

Even the former Sri Lanka World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatuga demanded an investigation about the 2011 World Cup final in 2017. He said in 2017 that,"When we lost, I was distressed and I had a doubt. We must investigate that what happened to Sri Lanka at the World Cup 2011 Final. I cannot reveal everything now, but one day I will. There must be an inquiry."
