Staging T20 World Cup this year will be 'Unrealistic', says Cricket Australia

Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings told the reporters on Tuesday that it would be 'unrealistic' & very difficult to stage the T20I World Cup this year.

The T20 World Cup (2020) was scheduled to take place from October 18 to November 15. The Officials said previously that, they are planning for it to proceed on scheduled dates. But due to the current pandemic situation in the world & travel restrictions across the world because of the outbreak of coronavirus, Cricket Australia chairman Eddings believes that it would be difficult & unrealistic to stage the T20 World Cup this year in Australia.

Earl Eddings told the reporters that,"While it hasn't been formally called off this year, or postponed, trying to get countries into Australia in the current world, where most countries are still going through COVID spiking, I think it's unrealistic, or it's going to be very, very difficult,"

"The ICC are having meetings as we speak, it's a bit of a movable feast at the moment," he said.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had a video conference meeting on June 10. But the fate of T20 World Cup this year was not yet decided by the officials. The officials postponed the decision about the T20 World Cup to next month in the next video conference meeting of ICC. Now, the chairman of Cricket Australia have also reported that it would be difficult to take place the T20 World Cup this year. So, ICC may or may not postpone the T20 World Cup to next year. Mostly the fate of T20 World Cup this year would be decided next month in the ICC video conference meeting. The ICC will decide it according to the pandemic situation next month.

T20 World Cup chief Nick Hockley, who took over the role of interim Cricket Australia chief, further added that he believes the ICC to make a final decision by next month. "We've got a fantastic local organizing committee who are busy preparing for every eventuality and the decision that will come," he said.
