The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) said on a statement on Thursday that,"From the onset Board as keen on organizing the tournament as per the original schedule. However, travel restrictions, country-specific quarantine requirements, fundamental health risks and social distancing mandates have posed as substantial challenges to the holding of the Asia Cup."

"Above all, the risks related to health and safety of participating players, support staff, commercial partners, fans and the cricketing community were deemed to be significant. Accordingly, the Board, after careful consideration of all the above factors, has determined that the Asia Cup 2020 be postponed," the statement added.

Asian Cricket Council have also said that they are working towards to held the cricket tournament on June 2021. "The ACC is currently working towards securing June 2021 as a suitable window for the same," it said.

Initially, the ACC have decided on 2019 that Pakistan will host the Asia Cup cricket tournament 2020. The decision to host the tournament in Pakistan raised the doubts of India's participation in Asia Cup 2020 because of the ongoing political tensions between the countries. In June 2020, following a meeting with Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that they would be willing to let Sri Lanka host the tournament. Recently PCB also announced that if Sri Lanka is not willing to host also, then UAE Cricket Board is also ready to host Asia Cup 2020. But now the ACC have totally postponed the plan of tournament held this year. They decided to postpone because of the risks related to health and safety of players, supporting staff & commercial partners.

The postpone of Asia Cup have paved the way for the possibilities of Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) to held this year. The fate of IPL 2020 will be decided according to the postpone decisions of ICC T20 World Cup 2020 & Asia Cup. Because, if both the tournaments held this year according to the schedule, then IPL can't be held this year as there will be no time to host the franchise tournament. As per schedule, T20 World Cup will be held on from October & Asia Cup will be held on in September. Indian team will be touring Australia in December. So doubt of staging IPL this year seen to be difficult. But now, the ACC have announced their postponement of the tournament, so if the Board wishes, the IPL tournament may held in September. But BCCI won't be taking clear decision about IPL, until the decision of ICC about the T20 World Cup this year. As of now, possibilities of staging IPL this year seemed to be good.
