England vs West Indies Test 2020 |
Though England started their 2nd innings good, but their ending was no so. They looked like will score a big total & give a big target for West Indies. But surprisingly at last hour on the day 4, wickets were fallen continuously for England & the end of day 4, they were able to score 284/8. England were made all out for 313 on earlier day 5. Shannon Gabriel took a 5-wicket haul in the second innings. He made the break through for England.
West Indies were given the target of 200 in the last day of the Test match. There was twist at the starting of West Indies' innings. Their top order were dismissed soon. Kraigg Brathwaite, Shai Hope & Brooks were dismissed for single digit runs by the England bowlers Jofra Archer & Mark Wood. At the lunch break, they were 35/3.
Slightly match was turning into England side. But then the West Indies batsman Jermaine Blackwood & Roston Chase did the recovery work. Both started to attack the England bowlers. They developed the partnership & took West Indies from the crucial situation. Blackwood reached his half century at the end of second session.
Even after Roston Chase getting dismissed for 37 by Jofra Archer, Blackwood led the chase till the last hour of play. But at last he got dismissed for 95 runs by the England skipper Ben Stokes. And at the end, John Campbell & Jason Holder guided the team to victory in the last hour of play. The final score of West Indies was 200/6 in 64.2 overs & won the match by 4 wickets.
After the end of the match, England skipper said Ben Stokes that,"You have to believe that 200 is enough, and if you don't, you're already losing. We should have got more runs in the first innings. We weren't ruthless enough to make our batting innings count, despite getting into good positions. I would still have batted first, because first innings runs count. If we made 400-500 runs, we really would have taken it away."
West Indies skipper Jason Holder said that,"One of our best victories. Yesterday was the best day I had in Test cricket. All the bowlers toiled hard yesterday, and it was a hard-fought day of Test cricket. I don't think any team knew. We had been sat at home doing nothing. We had time to prepare, but you never knew. John took a blow today, but hopefully he will come through."
