Ireland chased 329 runs & beat England in a thrilling 3rd ODI

Southampton: Ireland won the third ODI match against England by 7 wickets in a thrilling match by chasing a 329 run target, with 1 ball left.

Despite losing the ODI series, Ireland reached the consolation Victory by reaching the target of 329 runs set by England.

Paul Stirling and Andrew Paulburny both scored centuries and put on 214 for the victory of the Irish team.

3rd ODI Match

The third match of the three-match ODI series between England and Ireland was played at Southampton. England were in the situation of white-washing Ireland, by winning the 3rd ODI too. But ironically, Ireland won the thrilling 3rd ODI, by chasing 329 runs.

TOSS

The Irish team won the toss and elected to bowl. England lost 3 wickets for 44 runs in the opening over. Captain Eoin Morgan and Tom Ponton then teamed up to reclaim the team.

Both played a aggresive game. Eoin Morgan hits 15 fours, 4 sixes & scored 106 off 84 balls. But then, he was dismissed. Next batsman Tom Ponton also was dismissed for 58.

Down order scores for England

Despite scoring fast runs, England scored 216 runs in 33.2 overs and lost 7 wickets. It was difficult to cross even 250 runs for England. But, however with their down order batsman scored some runs & helped England to score more high. David Wiley scored 51, Tom Curran 38 * and Mahmoud 12. England lost all their wickets in 49.5 overs and scored 328 runs. Ireland's Craig Young 3, Mark Adair 1, Joshua Little 2, Curtis Camper 2, Delaney 1 took wickets.

Ireland chase

The Irish team played towards a tough target of 329 runs. Starter Delaney was out for just 12 runs. The next pair, Paul Stirling & Captain Andrew Palbirney were played aggressive.

214 runs Partnership

The duo put on 214 for the third wicket. Stirling's two drop catches gave the Ireland lead. Utilizing the two chances, he scored 142 off 128 balls.

Paul Birney was out for 113 off 112 balls. It was followed by Harry Dector, Kevin O'Brien, who stood until the last over and led the team. When they both joined the pair on the field there was a need to take 50 off 33 balls to win.

Thrilling last over

Inexperienced Shakib Mahmood bowled for England, who needed 8 runs in the last over. The Irish team did not hit a single four in that over. But Mahmood threw a no ball and it turned out to be a positive. Ireland reached the target in 49.5 overs & beat England by 7 wickets.

Ireland beat England for the second time with this consolation victory. Earlier, Ireland had beaten England by chasing the same 328 runs. Ireland has had a similar success again. Stirling, who scored 142, won the man of the match award.
